Collection: CLASS OF 94' - PRIDE FASHION SHOW
This collection, that was 1st debuted in Cape Town, was inspired by the year 1994. A year in which the first democratic elections took place where all citizens of all races could vote. The implementation of the 1994 South African Constitution aimed to transform South Africa into a united, non-racial, non-sexist and democratic country. Artists such as Boom Shaka, Brenda Fassie and Mango Groove lit up stages during this post-apartheid era. Desmond Tutu coined the term “Rainbow Nation” and the cartoon ‘Madam and Eve’ humorously chronicled the relationship between a white middle-class woman and her black maid as they cope with the end of Apartheid. Globally, according to Wired magazine, “Everything was cool. Aaliyah released “Back and Forth”; Brandy wanted to go down; TLC chased “Waterfalls”. Music, movies, TV - the cultural output felt alive. People were also very cool, or they were achieving cool by trying not to to be.” That is the spirit we aimed to capture with this ‘Class of ‘94 ‘ collection.
